I'm having the same issue with my ASUS TUG gaming laptop, windows 11.

Here's what I tried so far:

ctrl ald del task manager does not work, the only thing I could do is open safe mode

1st time:

Tried repair - said it failed

Tried uninstalling latest updates - did nothing.

Tried restore point - managed that to work, copied all of my files just in case, ran windows update again then restarted, when booting up it said "please don't close updates are under way" - tho it was booting up as usual and there were no updates that were being installed it just gave the usual login screen, and after logging in got same error.

This time my desktop loads (except the bottom windows menu is not visible/gone) and everything looks alright for 2-3 seconds then the white screen appears again.

Tried repair - this time it didn't show fail error but still did nothing.

Tried uninstalling the update - this time it gave an error that it failed.

Tried restore point - 1st time failed, second time there were no restore point at all.

When shutting down it sometimes gives this error: ArmouryCrate.AppServiceBridge.exe - Application Error

The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142)

There were 2 windows updates and one other update that didn't say windows but some other BS, here are the names of 2 of them:

KB5036620

KB5034765

This worked, thanks! I also tried disabling a bunch of random windows services in the safe mode, that worked too, but no idea which one is responsible for this issue...

Interestingly chrome does not work for some reason, only edge. Is it same for you?

Download the Chrome installer from another web browser, start it and then Chrome will work again for some reason. This Windows update is an absolute mess. When is Microsoft going to get their **** together?

God knows what other things are glitched. Microsoft chat support is an utter joke, I think I'll just wipe everything and install a bootlegged windows 7 and call it a day...

What do you mean by starting without internet? Just pulling the cable or some specific option while booting?

I have the same problem (win10 though) and after restoring to the last restore point I just don't shutdown the computer for now to keep it working... which is not a great long-term solution...

Follow some steps to fix this:-

  • To restart the computer, press and hold the power button for ten seconds.

  • You need to boot into Safe Mode to see if the problem is still there. You can find out how to do this for your specific version of Windows online. Possibly, a driver or update that was just loaded is to blame.

  • Update your display driver while your computer is in Safe Mode (look online for more information). This will make sure that it is up to date.

  • Please remove the update that caused the problem if you know what it is. To do this, go to Settings > Update & Security > View update history.

  • Bringing back the method (if possible): Use System Restore to get your computer back to a time before the update. To learn how to do this, look up the process online.

There are more options you could try if these don't work, or you could talk to a technician.
